2002 West Central District Meet Results

2002 West Central District meet. Top 4 teams to state, top 20 individuals to state.

Lindbergh Boys are District Champs! The Lindbergh boys had an amazing race on Saturday.

All 7 boys beat Hazen’s #5 runner to cement the win. In fact the top 6 LHS boys beat Hazen’s #4 runner, resulting in a huge win and upset. Senior Joel Purcell won the race in 15:49 and Sophomore Sam Ahlbeck placed third with a 16:03. Every single boy had a PR except Eric Haley who completed his first cross country meet of the fall after breaking his foot in the season opener at Evergreen HS. Eric managed to amaze everyone and run a sub-17 5k and place 26th overall. Give him another week and he will be up with the front runners. Also next week we will have Johnny Walter back racing. This will give us a team where every runner has broken 17 minutes. The newspaper ran the following quote before the race: “3A (Favorites): Hazen (Seamount King 1), Franklin Pierce (Seamount Pierce 1), Lakes (Seamount Pierce 2). Tough to imagine anyone catching Hazen. Even without No. 2 man Chris Newing (minor calf injury, he’ll be back this week), the Highlanders rolled to their sub-district title, and their top five were separated by just 39 seconds on the hilly Evergreen course.”
