Big Day at Fort Steilacoom Invite

Lindbergh had a huge day today at the Fort Steilacoom Invitational.  Our boys varsity took first place out of 40 teams, including the #6 ranked 4A team in the state (Tahoma).  In the JV #1 race, our five freshmen phenoms took 2nd place overall out of 26 schools competing.  This was the first 5K race for all of our top 5 JV guys.  In the JV 2 race, Lindbergh once again placed 2nd, led by impressive runs by Scott Morrison and Alex Nelsen.  In the girls varsity race we finished 24th out of 48 teams.  Individually, we had quite a few people place in the top ten in their races, and many people ran lifetime PRs.  Sarah Reiter, in just her first 5K race ever, ran a 19:32, which puts her #4 all-time in the history of Lindbergh High School.  On the boys side, Matt Miland moved up to 7th all-time.

Fort Steilacoom Results

We had perfect weather and fast races Saturday at the Fort Steilacoom Invitational.  The boy's team finished 4th out of the 43 teams entered in the boys race, and thus we added one more plaque to the collection.  For eight of our team members this was the first 5K they have ever run.  Almost all of the veterans on our team ran significantly faster than last year.  Given that this race came at the end of a difficult week of training and racing (in the past 8 days we have run three races and one interval workout), our team did great. Just think how fast everyone will run later in the season when we back off our training and race fresh!

Fort Steilacoom Invite Results

Over 40 teams participated in the Fort Steilacoom Invitational this year–the largest number ever in the history of the meet.  The weather was perfect.  Even after a very difficult week of training and having already raced on Thursday, the Lindbergh runners performed very well.  Lots of people ran PRs and competed strongly.

The boys team, still running without the injured James Turnbull, threw down an impressive third-place finish, behind Eisenhower and Olympia (both 4A teams).  The girls team placed 22nd.  The J.V. boys top 5 placed 10th.  The J.V. boys #2 team placed 13th.

Great job everyone.  Click below for individual splits and finish times.

2004 Ft. Steilacoom Invite Results

Lindbergh boys finished 6th place with 220 points, 6 points of ahead of 7th place Hazen. The boys team had a strong showing from Sam Ahlbeck (top individual, 16:10), Chris Miland (17:12) and Tor Ferguson (17:34). The boys need to step up their performances. Had this been a dual meet Hazen would have won 27-29.

The “future stars” team consisting of Kei Revius (2nd, 18:08), James Turnbull (14th, 18:35), David Rice (20th, 18:42), Eddie Ramsey (36th, 19:17) and Billy Doyle (45th, 19:32) took 5th place and was beat by 4th place Hazen.

The girls started the 5k season off with strong times. Madeline Platt was the top girl for Lindbergh, followed by Tori Swanson, Patty Harvey and Olga Sievers. The girls official times weren’t posted by the end of the meet.

All the JV boys ran PRs and/or significant improvements over the time trial times. In his race, Stephen Root, set a mile PR (6:36) going through his first mile, this comes two days after he set his PR on the third mile of mile repeats. Many runners improved or came near their two mile times set just Tuesday going through the second mile. We expect this group of guys to go undefeated in JV races for the second straight season.

We have a good week of training ahead of us before the next big race at
Sammamish.
