Girls Bring Home Hardware at Nike PreNationals

The Lindbergh girls placed 4th in the Varsity Division 1 race at the Nike Pre-Nationals today.  Six of the seven girls ran a PR, and all seven ran very well.  This was the most exciting girls race in years for Lindbergh!  Sarah Reiter was 3rd overall in the race, and Jasmine Fallgreen was 11th.

The boys JV ran in the Varsity 2 race and placed 10th.  They were led by Nathan Haley and Brett Love.  It is great to see how competitive our JV team is against varsity teams!

The boys varsity finished 7th overall in the elite Jim Danner Championship race.  The competition was particularly tough this year.  Four of the seven guys ran a PR, and two others ran their second fastest races ever.  Trevor Thompson led the way with a 5th place finish overall.

Lindbergh Boys 2nd at Nike Pre-Nationals

All 7 runners ran well in Portland this weekend, which earned us a 2nd place finish at the Nike Pre-Nationals meet behind Jesuit of Portland, who is the #2 ranked team in the Western region behind North Central (who is also ranked #1 in the entire United States).  We were the first place team from Washington, beating strong teams from Tahoma, Mercer Island, Skyline, and Sehome.  Our top four guys all ran PRs and moved up on the Lindbergh All-Time list.  Click below for team scores and splits/finish times.

Nike Day

Nike paid a visit to Lindbergh Cross Country on Friday, and everyone had a blast.  Nike has three big trucks that drive around the country going to invitationals and visiting schools to get feedback about running gear and to support high school running.  Only a handful of schools in the entire state of Washington have been visited by the Nike truck, and Lindbergh was one of them.  Alec Wall, former high school and college running star and all around cool dude, drove the truck to Lindbergh.  Alec went on a run with us; he showed us cool videos of the Nike Team Nationals; he gave us free Nike stuff; he bought us pizza and gatorade; he even made his mark on the cross country rock that we re-painted after our run.

Check out the pictures from Nike Day in the photo gallery.  Thanks Alec Wall and Nike for a great afternoon!

Nike Truck Coming To Lindbergh

This Friday the Nike truck is going to make a visit to our practice.  Nike has three trucks that tour the U.S. visiting high schools and setting up at meets.  We met the driver of one of these trucks at running camp this summer.  He is Alec Wall, who was one of the top runners in the U.S. when he was in high school, and he ran for the Unversity of Oregon.  He is going to meet with us to get some input on running shoes and clothing from the people on our team.  He will give away some freebies.  He will have some running shirts, etc. to buy (I think everything is $10).  Alec is probably going to run with us, and then after practice he is going to buy the team pizza.

We are one of only a handful of teams that the Nike truck is visiting in the entire state, so this is pretty cool.  Bring some money to buy stuff if you want.

Chris Miland to run at Nike Border Clash

Nike sponsors a cross country meet every year where the top runners from Oregon and Washington race. It is called the Nike Border Clash, and it is one of the coolest races you will ever see. A large cannon acts as the starting gun. A helicopter flies over head filming the entire race. Spectators can watch the race on huge TVs that are at various places on the course. Drummers walk along the course drumming in rhythm during the race. The course is run on the incredible Nike World Headquarters outside of Portland. It is quite an experience.

Based on his finish at the state meet, Chris was an alternate for this race. Yesterday, however, he received a phone call from Nike informing him that someone had to drop out, and that he was in.

The race is Sunday, November 20th. Good luck Chris!
