Lindbergh boys win their first state XC championship, girls take 6th

Congratulations to the Lindbergh boys team on winning the 2A state championship today at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. The boys beat out Sehome by ONE point!  The win was definitely a team effort and can be attributed to the tight pack and five runners under 17 minutes. The spread between our 1st and 7th runner was only :41. Sehome had two in the top ten and three in the top thirty, which is tough to beat and every single place mattered. Their spread between 1 and 7 was 1:16.

Though everyone contributed to this win, the huge race by Travis Downen (16:25–a :10 PR) was very important. Nathan Haley ran his best race of the season (16:37) as well. The return of Mohamud Abdi after missing the past two weeks due to back problems was crucial as well. If the score had been a tie between us and Sehome, we still would have won on the strength of our #6 runner, Ben Platt, who was ahead of Sehome’s #6. Mark and Luke Garcia continued to be rock solid in our #1 and #2 spots. Omelyan Strembitskyy ran his second fastest time ever.

Sarah Reiter led the girls team with her 6th place in the girls race with a time of 18:36 (her fastest of the season).  Anna Patti also made the award stand with her 12th place and time of 19:08 (also a season best). Thuong Nguyen finished her year with a PR (:15), as did Cindy Huynh.

The girls beat two teams at state who beat us at districts: Kingston and North Kitsap.

This was a great way to finish a wonderful season for everyone involved.

Boys 2nd At State!

The boys team capped off a great season by finishing 2nd at state, just 11 points out of first.  This is the best state meet finish for a Lindbergh team (the previous best was 4th).  Two of the boys, Luke Garcia and Mark Garcia, made it on the awards stand by placing 14th and 16th.  Each ran a PR on a challenging state meet course.  This team has consistently run well all season long, and they had the most impressive pack of any team at the state meet.  The spread between our first and seventh runners was only :32.  Our #5 runner (Mohamud Abdi) was faster than any other team’s #5, as was our #6 (Alex Nelson), and our #7 (Travis Downen).

Sarah Reiter is state champion! Girls Team Finishes 6th

Sarah won the 2A girls state championship this morning at Sun Willows golf course with a time of 18:03. Sarah joins Sam Ahlbeck (2004) as the second Lindbergh runner to win the cross country individual championship. Anna Patti also made the awards stand with her 6th place finish with a time of 19:01, which moves her to the #3 all time fastest Lindbergh girl.  For the second year in a row the girls team finished in 6th place at the state meet.  All of the girls ran very well, running either a PR or within a few seconds of it on a challenging state meet course.  Though plaqued by injuries the first half of the season, the girls came through huge at the end of the season.

Another meet, another victory, another course record!

The Lindbergh cross country team competed at the Fort Steilacoom invitational Saturday.  The boys varsity took first place overall, as did the JV boys top 5.  The girls varsity finished second in the small school category (2A or smaller).  The rest of the JV boys took 2nd overall in the second JV race.  There were 32 teams competing in the meet.

Sarah Reiter won the individual race, setting a course record by :13 seconds in the process.  She also moved up the Lindbergh all-time list, becoming the best runner in Lindbergh history.

The girls ran short-handed due to sickness, church events, and injuries.  We are looking forward to getting all of the girls in our upcoming races.

Lindbergh’s Best State Finish Ever!

Our boys and girls both finished in 6th place at the state meet yesterday.  This is the best combined result in the history of the school–Lindbergh has never had two teams place in the top 10 in the same year.  The previous best finish for the Lindbergh girls was 10th, meaning that this is clearly the best girls team ever.  Only one boys team has placed higher than 6th (last year's team, which was 4th).

The girls were only 8 points away from 5th place, and the boys were 15 points away from 3rd.

Only 3 girls teams ever from the Seamount League have placed higher than we did this year:  1978 Renton 3rd, 1979 Kennedy 3rd, 1981 Renton 5th.

No other team in the state this year had both their boys and girls teams place in the top 6 at state.

Two of our individual runners made the podium this year:  Sarah Reiter was 14th and Trevor Thompson was 12th.

Most importantly, our team had tons of fun this weekend and enjoyed a team experience that I am sure we will all remember for a long time to come.
