Awards Banquet Information

The cross country awards banquet is Wednesday, Nov. 18th at 6:00 in the Library. Family members are invited to join the celebration of our season. This is a banquet, so please bring something to share. So that we don’t end up with 30 bowls of potato salad I am assigning what to bring. If you have a favorite thing you would like to bring that is different than what is assigned, go ahead and bring it.

Great Racing in Portland

We had great weather and lots of fast races at the Nike XC Invite Saturday. We had 24 boys run in the race, and 17 of them ran lifetime PRs. On the girls side, Feven continued her impressive season, finishing 4th in the Division 1 race with a lifetime PR of 19:07.

Fort Steilacoom results

We ran great at the Fort Steilacoom invite Saturday. In terms of team results, the girls varsity finished 3rd in the Small Schools category. The boys finished 5th in the very competitive Gold Division. The teams that beat us included Tahoma, who is ranked 16th in the nation and 1st in the state for 4A, Eisenhower, who is ranked 3rd in the state for 4A, and Claremont, who is one of the best teams in the state of California. We beat 5 teams that are ranked in the top 10 in the state for 3A and 4A. We also beat Liberty, who was 3rd at state in 2A last year.

In the JV Champs race our boys finished 7th place overall, which is great since 3 of our top runners are freshman, and that was their first 5K race!

Individually, Feven Fessehatzion was the star of the day, finishing 3rd place in the Silver Division race.

Eight team members ran life-time PRs in the first 5K of the season (Marshall, Deven, Alex, Josh, Chase, Brandon H., Evan, and Drew). Our individual improvement in terms of time over last year is remarkable. Almost everyone improved, and most people improved by close to a minute. Our biggest improvement was Evan Luttrell, who knocked 4:50 off his time from last year.

All in all, this was a great start to the season.

At the end of the meet–about 5:45–we will have a quick awards ceremony where the top 10 finishers in each race are called up and recognized. We will return to school between 6:30 and 7:00.
