Runner of the Week Awards
Patty Harvey and Brian Jensen were awarded Runner of the Week t-shirts for their performances at our first dual meet at Evergreen.
Coach Swanson’s goal for the girl’s team this week was for everyone to compete hard in the race. They all did just that. Patty has been particularly impressive as a result of her increased level of focus at practice and at meets, in addition to her great attitude. During the first mile of the race she was running with girls from Kennedy and Highline. Somewhere around the two mile mark she made a strong move and put a large gap between herself and the other two runners. Over the last mile she continued to extend her lead. Her attitude and effort in practice this week, along with her competitiveness in the race, earned her the runner of the week honors.
Brian Jensen has been a model of hard work and focus since track ended last Spring. He ran over twenty miles a week all summer and began the season ready to get faster and run PRs. This work ethic has paid off already. His interval workouts have been steadily improving over the first few weeks of the season. And this week, in the first 5K race of the season, he ran a PR of well over a minute on the hilly Evergreen course.
Great job Patty and Brian. Keep it up!
