Anthony Ross earns Trackee of the Meet Award
It came down to two events–the finals of the triple jump and the 4X400 relay. In order to beat Highline last week we needed to take first place in both events.
There wasn’t much drama with the relay, since our team was clearly faster than theirs. Unless we somehow got disqualified, we would win the relay. The triple jump, on the other hand, was a different story. At the end of the preliminary jumps, Anthony Ross was in second place. The finals were delayed due to the worst hail storm in the past 100 years. It was cold and wet. Anthony was tired and his muscles were tight. Coach Brown pulled him aside and told him that the meet was on his shoulders. If he moved into first place, we would win the meet. If he stayed in second, we would lose. Anthony made his best effort on his first two jumps, but he was still in second place with one jump remaining. On his final jump he ran a strong approach. He hit the board perfectly. His phases were all strong. And he landed in the pit in first place. Anthony came through in the clutch.
For his outstanding triple jump under pressure, as well as taking first in the high jump, Anthony Ross has earned the Trackee of the Meet award.
