Lindbergh Boys and Girls Start the Season with Wins Over Highline
Highline is always one of our strongest competitors. In fact, both boys and girls teams beat us last season. This year, however, we came out on top. Both the boys and girls teams won by five points.
For the boys, the meet started off as planned, with wins in the 110 Hurdles, the 100 meters, and the 1600. Then the 4X100 relay changed everything. Morrey Brown, our second leg, strained his hamstring and could only limp through his leg. The meant that not only did we not get the relay points, but we also lost what should have been first places in the 200 meters and the 300 meter hurdles that Morrey was scheduled to run later in the meet. Godsey Tross then tweaked a calf muscle, which kept him from competing in the triple jump at full strength. Despite these problems, many people were able to score points in their events, allowing us to keep the meet close. It came down to the 4X400 relay, which we easily won. This was truely a team effort, and it is encouraging to know that we can win big meets even when we are not at full strength.
For the girls, this win was a bit of a surprise. Highline placed third at state last year, and they have all of their star performers back. Our top distance runner, Madeline Platt, had a sore hamstring and was unable to run. Once the meet started, however, many of our girls stepped up big. We scored points in places that we didn’t expect. The meet came down to the 4X400 relay, which the girls won in impressive fashion.
Great job everyone! Keep up the winning ways.
