Mixed Results in the Portland Heat

85 degrees at Portland Meadows yesterday.  Enough sun to give each of the coaches impressive farmer’s tans.  And enough to cause dozens of runners throughout the day to pass out from heat stroke.  I don’t think our team has seen temperatures like that since the first Bush administration.  Nonetheless, most of our team ran solid to good in the meet.  The pre-nationals meet has teams from all around the U.S., with a heavy emphasis on top California teams.  Needless to say, the competition was fierce.

The highlight of the day in Portland for Lindbergh cross country came from the girls Danner Champs race.  Our very own Sarah Reiter continues to impress with a new PR, a new school record, and a second place finish.  The girl who beat her is ranked in the top 5 runners in the nation.

In other girls results, Monique Smith ran a huge PR, while Brenna Fisher and Liz Hansen ran faster at this course than they did last year.  This group ran in the Varsity 1 race.

In the JV race, three of our top 7 ran PRs:  Ben Platt, Mitchell Hughey, and Matt Nelsen.

The boys varsity ran solid races in the boys Danner Champs.  Nathan Haley, Travis Downen, and Alex Nelsen ran PRs.
