First Day of Practice Monday, August 20th

The season is about to start–make sure you are ready.

–Get Cleared! See the post below for info
–Get new shoes if you need them (and you probably do)
–Keep running! (or start running for some of you!)

Monday, August 20th at 2:30. Meet under the skybridge (or as close to it as the construction will allow). Remember, you can’t practice until you have completed your athletic clearance.

Since we begin practice two weeks before school starts, we will follow our normal practice schedule:

Monday – Friday 2:30 to 4:30, Saturday 9:00 – 11:00.

If you have any questions, contact the coach: jeffery.rettmann@rentonschools.us

Free Physicals! Start on the road to your Athletic Clearance.

The Valley Medical Center and the Renton School District have partnered to provide FREE sports physicals. They will be offered Saturday, August 4th from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Renton High School.

Before attending this event you need to obtain the Athletic Packet from the Attendance Office or the Main Office, or from Coach Rettmann. The doctor needs to sign the district physical form.

If you prefer to have your own doctor do your physical that is fine, but you still need to bring the district Athletic Packet to your appointment.

August 20th is the first day of practice. In order to participate you need to have completed your athletic clearance. Clearance week is August 13 – 17. This means you need a physical and have the physical form filled out and signed; you need to pay your sports fee ($75), and you need to buy your ASB card.

Tons of Fun at the 2012 Running Camp

Over 60 runners participated in our 3rd Annual Running Camp. Runners from Lindbergh, Renton, and Franklin High Schools took part. We had perfect weather (until Friday), great guest speakers, fun games, good runs, tasty food, and cool people.

Check out the camp slide show.

Eagle Running Camp

The 3rd Annual Eagle Running Camp will take place Monday, July 16th – Friday, July 20th. Meet at Phillip Arnold Park at 9:00 a.m. It will be done around 2:00ish. The camp is free, but everyone needs to have a Renton Sports Camp Permission form filled out and turned in by the first day of camp. The team captains can give you this form, or they can be filled out the morning of the first day.

The camp is a great chance for team bonding, fun, learning, conditioning, good free food, etc.

The schedule each day will be something like this:

9:00 meet at park, team activity
9:20 warm-up, core exercises
9:45 group run
10:45 snack
11:00 guest speaker
12:00 lunch
12:45 camp game
2:00 go home

Keep Training!

Track season is coming up soon. Show up after school outside the locker rooms and find a group to run with. Remember, off-season training is what determine how successful you will be during the season.

Lindbergh boys win their first state XC championship, girls take 6th

Congratulations to the Lindbergh boys team on winning the 2A state championship today at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. The boys beat out Sehome by ONE point!  The win was definitely a team effort and can be attributed to the tight pack and five runners under 17 minutes. The spread between our 1st and 7th runner was only :41. Sehome had two in the top ten and three in the top thirty, which is tough to beat and every single place mattered. Their spread between 1 and 7 was 1:16.

Though everyone contributed to this win, the huge race by Travis Downen (16:25–a :10 PR) was very important. Nathan Haley ran his best race of the season (16:37) as well. The return of Mohamud Abdi after missing the past two weeks due to back problems was crucial as well. If the score had been a tie between us and Sehome, we still would have won on the strength of our #6 runner, Ben Platt, who was ahead of Sehome’s #6. Mark and Luke Garcia continued to be rock solid in our #1 and #2 spots. Omelyan Strembitskyy ran his second fastest time ever.

Sarah Reiter led the girls team with her 6th place in the girls race with a time of 18:36 (her fastest of the season).  Anna Patti also made the award stand with her 12th place and time of 19:08 (also a season best). Thuong Nguyen finished her year with a PR (:15), as did Cindy Huynh.

The girls beat two teams at state who beat us at districts: Kingston and North Kitsap.

This was a great way to finish a wonderful season for everyone involved.

On To State!

Both the boys and the girls teams qualified for the state meet this weekend. The girls finished in 4th place (the top 5 go to state), and were only 17 points out of first place. The boys finished in first place to become the West Central District Champions for the second year in a row. The boys ran without Mohamud, who was resting a sore back. Colton ran a great race as the alternate.

This is the third year in a row that both the boys and the girls teams qualified for state.
