Lindbergh Moves to 2A

You may have heard that Lindbergh will be competing in the 2A classification beginning this year, after being in the 3A classification since the 1990s.  I have had lots of questions about this change, so here is the explanation.

The WIAA made a decision to try to even out the number of teams that are in each size classification (B, A, 2A, 3A, 4A).  The reason for this is so that teams in each classification would face an equivalent amount of competition to qualify for state competition.  This means that now each classification has about 65 teams in it, with 16 teams qualifying for state.

Lindbergh’s enrollment size has not changed, but the cut-off line dividing the classifications moved.  Lindbergh has always been one of the smallest 3A schools in the state.  We are now one of the largest 2A teams.

The Seamount league is now a split league.  Tyee, Evergreen, Foster, Renton, and Lindbergh are 2A.  Hazen, Kennedy, and Highline are 3A.  Mt. Rainier is now 4A and no longer in our league.  The league competitions will stay the same as in past years.  However, when we get to what has been called the league meet (now called Sub-district), the schools divide into classifications.  Because that leaves us with only 5 2A teams to compete with to determine who will qualify for districts, we are combining with the SPSL 2A teams for this meet.
