Fun and Fast Times in Portland

We had a great weekend staying in Kelso and competing in Portland at the Nike Pre Nationals meet this weekend. There were over 120 high schools competing in this meet from all around the West Coast. Needless to say there was great competition. The boys team in particular had a great meet, with lots of huge PRs. We appreciate the parents who helped drive the team down there, as well as the many parents who came to watch.

The following people ran PRs:

Boys: Evan 1:44, Brandon H. 1:33, Kane 1:22, Ryan 1:02, Alex 1:01, Zach 1:01, Dirk 1:00, Colton :39, Tyler :34, Chase :24, Trevor :08, Marshall :07

Girls: Norchel :54, Shandiny :43

Home Meet Victory

Victories across the board at Lindbergh Thursday. The JV, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys all defeated Hazen and Highline to start the dual meet season 2 – 0. The Lindbergh course is not a fast one, with lots of hills throughout. In spite of this, several runners managed PRs. The race of the day came in the JV boys race, where Chase and Josh pushed each other to a near photo finish, with Josh getting the win by half a step.

Info for Nike Pre-Nationals Meet in Portland

This weekend the team will travel to Portland to compete in the Nike Pre-Nationals Cross country meet. There will be teams from all around the country participating. We will leave Friday right after school, stay the night at the Super 8 hotel in Kelso, drive to Portland in the morning, and return late Saturday. Team members will need money for food for the weekend. You may also want to bring money for meet shirts–they always have some cool stuff for sale at the meet. We are paying for the hotel and transportation out of the team budget.

Make sure you bring clothes for any and all weather possibilities. We will go for a run Friday from the hotel, so you need running clothes other than your uniform.

A Good Start at Fort Steilacoom

Fort Steilacoom was the first 5K of the season, and the first 5K ever for several team members. In the team score, the boys finished 5th and the girls 7th. Daniel Langer had a particularly impressing race, running a :19 PR in the first race of the season and finishing in the top 10. Marshall, Zach, and Chase each PRed by a full minute. Overall it was a good start for the team, but we have a lot of work to do to reach our team goals.

The First Meet of the Season: Tahoma Coed Relays

This Saturday, Sept. 6th is the Tahoma Coed Relay race.

The Tahoma Coed Relay race is a fun way to start the season. The course is about a mile and a half and runs through the park and on single-track trails. It even goes through the lake for about 100 yards. Team members will either run in the Open Race or in the Relay race. Relay teams consist of three boys and two girls. Since we have more boys than girls on the team, some of the boys will be entered in the Open Race.

The meet takes place at Lake Wilderness State Park in Maple Valley (22500 SE 248th Street, Maple Valley, WA 98038).

Team members need to be at school by 6:45 ready to get on the bus.

The Open Race starts at 8:30 and the Relay Race starts at 9:15. The Awards Ceremony will take place at about 10:45. If possible, please bring some kind of a snack or beverage (fruit, granola bars, cookies, water, etc.) to share so that we can hang out together and have a snack potluck. We should be back at the school by noonish.
