Seamount League Champions

Today we swept the Seamount League Championship meet.  Our girls varsity probably had the best race of the day.  Even though we didn't run Jasmine in order to rest her shin, we still won easily.  The girls all ran great.  Everyone else ran well also, and we easily won each of the races.  The complete results will be posted on http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/School.aspx?SchoolID=433

Here are the team scores:

Girls Varsity:  Lindbergh 27, Hazen 67, Renton 90, Mt. Rainier 95, Kennedy 106, Highline 111

Boys Varsity:  Lindbergh 28, Hazen 72, Kennedy 100, Mt. Rainier 103, Foster 104, Renton 111, Highline 214, Evergreen 238

4th at State

The Lindbergh boys team finished a best-ever 4th at the state meet in Pasco this weekend in a race that was perhaps the most competitive in the past 20 years.  North Central, the first place team with 24 points, is the #1 ranked team in the United States.  Seattle Prep, the second place team, would have easily been the state champions any other year with the times they ran.  The top 14 individuals all ran times that were faster than last year's state champion.  And the 3A race was more competitive than the 4A race for the first time that I can remember.   Considering all of these factors, finishing fourth place is especially impressive.  We didn't run the best race of the year (if we did, we could have been 3rd), but we ran well enough to bring home a trophy for the first time in the history of Lindbergh cross country.

Matt Miland finished in 10th place, ran a PR, and qualified for the Nike Border Clash race in two weeks.  Thanh Nguyen ran the race of the day, running 17:07–a huge PR–and out-kicking several runners in the final 200 meters.

After a fabulous season, Sarah Reiter unfortunately had a disappointing state meet.  After going out in a perfect position the first mile (in 15th place and looking good), she pulled her calf muscle and had to limp through the final two miles.

West Central District Champs!

The Lindbergh boys dominated the West Central District meet today, finishing first with a score of 49 points.  Second place North Kitsap had 86 points.  We placed three runners in the top 10, and 4 in the top 15.

Our girls ran a great race today as well, just missing qualifying for the state meet.  All seven girls ran PRs to wrap up their seasons.  Sarah Reiter finished 9th and qualified for state individually.

Seamount League Triple Crown

Today Lindbergh completed the Cross Country Triple Crown, becoming league champions with all three teams:  Girls, Varsity Boys, and JV Boys.  This is the first season we have won all three titles in the same year!  In addition to the team titles, Sarah Rieter became the Seamount League individual champion, winning by 45 seconds.  Also, if our JV boys were allowed to compete in the varsity race, they would have finished 4th place.  This means that they would have qualified for the West Central District meet as a varsity team.  Additionally, our top 3 JV runners (CJ Timm, Alex Nelsen, and Brett Love) all would have qualified individually to compete in the district varsity race.  (James Cornell is getting over a calf injury, so he ran a tempo run in the JV race as a workout–he will be running  varsity at Districts, however).

Girls Team Scores:  Lindbergh  42, Hazen  57,  Renton  73,  Mt. Rainier  73,  Highline  100,  Kennedy  146

Week #6 Rettblog

summerpopsiclesWeek #6 is now over, which means that we have now reached the half-way mark of the summer training schedule.  This is the time of the summer that is the most crucial–and the most difficult–in terms of training.  The early excitement of summer has worn off.  The start of the new year seems like a long ways away.  Getting up in the morning to run is harder and harder because everyone is going to bed later and later.  This is the time to really dig in and run consistently, however.  If you can keep training these next few weeks, then you will be in good shape.  Once we hit August, the first cross country practice will only be a few weeks away, which will provide more motivation for you.  Believe me, those who are training now will have a HUGE advantage once the season starts.

Next week is running camp, and several of our team members will be participating.  They are:  Matt, Trevor, Nate, Joe, James, James, CJ, Thanh, and Anna.  I will also be at camp all week.  Everyone else needs to just keep running.

At the end of week #6 I have finally broken the 200 mile mark–205 miles to be exact.  This is 20 miles ahead of schedule for the 500 mile club.  So far I am staying healthy and feeling good.  I need to start working in more long runs–8 – 10 milers.

Last week on Wednesday was the hottest day of the summer so far–98 degrees.  Only a few people had the guts to show up and run on such a hot day.  Those who did were rewarded with ice cold water and popcicles.
