Girls Bring Home Hardware at Nike PreNationals

The Lindbergh girls placed 4th in the Varsity Division 1 race at the Nike Pre-Nationals today.  Six of the seven girls ran a PR, and all seven ran very well.  This was the most exciting girls race in years for Lindbergh!  Sarah Reiter was 3rd overall in the race, and Jasmine Fallgreen was 11th.

The boys JV ran in the Varsity 2 race and placed 10th.  They were led by Nathan Haley and Brett Love.  It is great to see how competitive our JV team is against varsity teams!

The boys varsity finished 7th overall in the elite Jim Danner Championship race.  The competition was particularly tough this year.  Four of the seven guys ran a PR, and two others ran their second fastest races ever.  Trevor Thompson led the way with a 5th place finish overall.

3 – 0

All the Lindbergh teams began the Seamount League season with a perfect 3 – 0 record by beating Highline, Tyee, and Foster.  The course was a new variation of North Seatac Park.  It had sharp turns, lose gravel, roots and rocks, single-track trail, etc.  The combination of the slow course and the lack of competition meant that the times were very slow.  Our main goal was to get through the meet without any injuries.  We treated it as a tempo run.  Only two people sprained their ankles, hopefully not badly.  The girls beat their closest competitor, Highline, 22 to 33.  The boys beat Foster 21 – 36.

Sundodger Invitational a Success

The Lindbergh Boys varsity took 1st place today at the Sundodger Invitational, defeating Redmond (ranked 5th in the 4A) and Seattle Prep (ranked 6th in the 3A).  We did this without James Cornell running in the race.  The JV boys finished 2nd to Eastlake High School.

Trevor Thompson won the individual race, beating the defending 4A state champion by 15 seconds.  In the process he set a new Lindbergh Cross Country school record with a time of 15:22 (4:56 mile pace).

On the girls side, Lindbergh finished 6th out of 8 teams.  This was without Sarah Reiter in the race, and with our 4, 5, and 6 runners being directed to take a wrong turn and running an extra 1 kilometer.  Because of this we don't have accurate times for Brenna, Liz, or Mercedes.  Jasmine Fallgreen was our top girl today.  She finished 11th overall in a very tough girls field.  Her time of 19:39 (6:19 mile pace) moves her into the 5th spot on the Lindbergh All-time list.

There was also a problem on the course in the boys varsity race.  The runners in front of Nate Tandecki, who was in 7th place, accidentally took a wrong turn.  The entire field followed, so there was no change in the overall places. This added an unknown amount onto the course (perhaps as much as :30).  Thus the times aren't accurate for all of the varsity except Trevor.

I'm not sure where the complete results will be posted.  When I find out, I will add the link.

Tahoma Coed Relays

Lindbergh's top team finished 2nd place today at the coed relays–our best finish ever.  This team, made up of Nate Tandecki, Sarah Reiter, Nate Reitz, Ericka Galindo, and Trevor Thompson, ran very well and was only a few seconds behind the winning team.

We also had a great time with the team / parent potluck.  Thanks everyone for bringing stuff.  I enjoyed getting a chance to meet parents.  For the second year in a row we lucked out with the nice weather.

The length of this course is somewhere between 1.5 and 2.0 miles.  Since we don't know the exact distance, and since you run through pretty deep water for 80 meters, the times don't mean much.  The course is always a little different from year to year as well, so comparison between years is not useful.  Most of our team members were about 35 – 40 seconds faster at this course than at the class meet on Thursday.  If you were more than 40 seconds faster, then you had a much better race here than at the class meet.

1994 Season

This season was the 4th year in a row that the Lindbergh girls were league champs and undefeated.

League meet

The 1994 league meet was held at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle and was a real 5K. The Lindbergh girls won the league meet and the Hazen boys won. The race conditions that day were raining and occasional thunder.

The Lindbergh girls won with 42 points over second place Mt Ranier's 56 points. The Hazen girls had a 1-2 finish in Jenni Nelson (19:54) and Stephanie Davidson (20:26). Lindbergh's top girl, Sarah Gagnier, took third place with a time of 20:35. No other girls were under 21 minutes on this difficult course. Heidi Swif,  normally the team's #1 runner, sat out of the race with the flu. "Seniors Kelly and Chase Gregory came home a surprising fifth and eighth while Vivian Keeney finished 11th for Lindbergh."1

The Hazen boys dominated the boys race (18 points) with their top 5 runners in the top 6 spots and their 6th runner was 9th. Hazen's Tom Hildrum and James Day lead a 1-2 finish.

District meet

The Lindbergh girls took second place in the Sea-King district meet. The state qualifying girls teams were Lakeside 32, Lindbergh 96, Blanchet104, Seattle Prep 106, and Garfield 130.  Sarah Gagnier was the top Lindbergh girl and finished 10th overall.

None of the Lindbergh boys qualified for the state meet.

State meet

The team placed 14th at the State meet.

Sarah Gagnier 32nd 19:17
