New Summer Feature: Rettblog by Rettdog

Each week this summer I am going to post a blog entry that I am going to call the Rettblog.  I will discuss events that happened during the week or that are planned for the coming weeks.  I will give a sampling of the summer mileage logs of various team members so that we can see what people are doing.  I will also include my own running log so that you can see that even old people like me have goals and have to work to achieve them.  Occassionally I might tell funny or inspirational running stories.  I will also include candid pictures from our summer runs and events.  Be sure to check the site regularly througout the summer so that you can keep up with what's going on.  You can email me your weekly mileage, or anything else, and I will include it on the site.  Use my home email account, not the one at school:  jrettmann@hotmail.com

My goals for the summer:  1)  stay healthy  (My calf has been giving me problems, as many of you know.  The past few summers I have had to take time off).  2)  Run 500 miles (of course, this depends on the being able to accomplish goal #1)

My week #1 mileage:  30 miles

 Keep running!

“The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win.”

It has been great to see quite a few people running at the park every day so far.  There are others, however, who should be there but aren't.  Consistant training throughout the summer is crucial to succes in cross country.  Training during the summer will allow you to avoid many injuries once the season starts because your body will be used to running every day.  Consistant summer training also will provide you with the base fitness that you need to get the most out the interval training we will do once the season starts.  This is what makes your body able to run fast.

The middle part of the summer is often the most difficult time to keep training–the initial enthusiasm has worn off but the season seems so far away.  Keep training, even if you only run a little bit each day.  Remember to record your mileage in your summer running logs.

I am leaving for France Thursday, July 6th (as is Madeline and Patty).  We get back on July 22nd.  Tor, James, Chris, and Matt are all attending running camp  from July 23rd to July 29th.

During the first week of August we will have a team run on Cougar Mountain followed by a BBQ and swimming at my house.  Stay tuned for more information.
