PRs For Everyone at the Mile Time Trial

Every cross country season on the Monday of the last week before state our varsity runners race a mile on the track at Renton Stadium.  The purpose is to get the sensation of running very fast and to get the confidence boost of running a PR or close to it, even though we have been training for 5Ks and not 1600s.  Usually a few people on the team manage to run a PR.  This year, every one who ran accomplished a PR.  Here are the mile times (only the guys ran).

Going To State!

Olga Sievers ran an outstanding race, finishing 14th in the 3A girls race, which qualifies her to run in the state meet next week. This time also moves Olga up to the #15 spot on the All-Time fastest list. Bailey, Madeline, and Patti all ran great races as well.

The Boys team also qualified for the state meet. They finished 3rd in the race with 88 points, behind Peninsula (54 pts) and Franklin Pierce (76 pts). Chris Miland finished an impressive second place over-all, and we placed three runners under 17:00. Chris moved up to the 9th spot on the All-Time list for the boys. Matt Miland was the top freshman in the district. Ranvir has been stuggling with tendonitis in his knee, but gutted out a tough race inspite of the pain.

Here are the individual results.

Runner of the Week Awards from the League Meet

Although quite a few runners on our team had very strong races at the League meet(such as Bailey Bangerter, Sharaya Bradley, Kalen Hardwick, Stephen Root, and several others), the two people who have excelled the most recently based on their workouts and their races are Kenneth Yuen and Andy Dean.  They are this weeks Runners of the Week.  Here is why.

Lindbergh Boys Are Undisputed League Champs–The Girls Qualify for Districts

The Boys Varsity capped off a perfect league season by easily winning the Division meet. Lindbergh scored only 38 points, while the second place team–Hazen–scored 64. Lindbergh packed four runners in the top ten, and five runners in the top fifteen.

The girls team ran a strong team race, finishing 4th in the King Division and earning a spot at the district meet next saturday.

The J.V. Boys defeated the Kennedy boys to take fourth place.

Here are the complete results.

Lindbergh Boys Sweep All-City

The varsity boys finished their dual meet season a perfect 7 – 0. In a race where all the teams ran very well, Lindbergh came out on top–barely. We easily defeated Kennedy and Renton, but we beat Hazen on a 6th runner tie break. Chris Miland took first place in the race, while Tor Ferguson ran a beastly 4th place finish. Ranvir has been having knee problems and almost didn’t run in the race. He took one for the team, however, and suffered through the challenging course. His gutsy race gave us the tie breaker.

Amazingly, Renton boys beat Hazen on a 6th runner tie break as well.

The Girls team, though losing to Renton and Hazen, ran very good races. Patty Harvey, in particular, ran the best race I have ever seen her run.

Here are the complete results.

The All-City Meet

This Thursday we race at Seward Park against Renton and Hazen.  In Seward Park there is a road that follows the lake, and there is a road that winds up the hill to the highest elevation point in the park.  To get to the start, drive up the windy road that takes up to the top.  The start line is right above the amphitheater.  See you there.

“Staying Alive” on Road Warrior Saturday

Few runners have completed the famous but extremely difficult Road Warrior workout.  In a Road Warrior, I drive my car at a constant speed (15 mph for the boys, 12 mph for the girls) while 3-4 runners at a time run along side.  Every tenth of a mile I honk the horn.  The goal for the runners is to see how many honks they can keep up with the car.  As soon as a runner fades behind the back bumper, he or she must stop.  We run the Road Warriors on the road leading to Philip Arnold Park.  This road is a half a mile in length.  For a guy to make all five honks he must run the half mile in 2:00.  The girls run 2:30.  This workout requires extreme mental and physical toughness to keep up as long as possible.  Read on to see who made it to the gate.
