Fort Steilacoom Invite Results

Over 40 teams participated in the Fort Steilacoom Invitational this year–the largest number ever in the history of the meet.  The weather was perfect.  Even after a very difficult week of training and having already raced on Thursday, the Lindbergh runners performed very well.  Lots of people ran PRs and competed strongly.

The boys team, still running without the injured James Turnbull, threw down an impressive third-place finish, behind Eisenhower and Olympia (both 4A teams).  The girls team placed 22nd.  The J.V. boys top 5 placed 10th.  The J.V. boys #2 team placed 13th.

Great job everyone.  Click below for individual splits and finish times.

Class Meet Results

The class meet this year was a smashing success for the Lindbergh Eagles.  In each race, we placed at least one person in the top ten.  We had three individual winners (Anna Sinclair, Trevor Thompson, and Matt Miland).  Trevor set a new freshman course record by :18 seconds.  Almost everyone was greatly improved over last year's times.  If we calculated the team score, our boys would have easily taken first place, while our girls would have finished third (behind Renton and Hazen).

Time Trial Results

Saturday morning we ran our annual team time trial.  We ran yet another version of our home course at Lindbergh (more construction).  The distance was exactly 3 miles.  Conditions:  Sunny, hot, no wind, about 75 degrees.  Because it was a three-day weekend, several people were out of town.  The times at the time trial are slow every year compared to the times people will run during the season.  This is in part because it is the first race of the year, and in part because the course at Lindbergh is the slowest that we run on all year.

Nelson’s Trevor Thompson Sets New All-City Mile Record

The conditions were perfect–the deluge of rain that hit Renton earlier in the day stopped.  The wind that often blows through the stadium calmed.  Blue sky appeared above the track, allowing rays of sunshine to warm the air to a perfect temperature.  The main grandstands were near full of fans.  The two heavy weights–Thompson and Vanuland–stepped onto the track for a rematch of their early season confrontation that saw Thompson win by two tenths of a second after leading the entire race.  Both runners ran 5:00 in that race, barely missing the chance to become the first runners in Renton middle-school track history to run sub-5:00.

Lindbergh Boys and Girls Start the Season with Wins Over Highline

Highline is always one of our strongest competitors.  In fact, both boys and girls teams beat us last season.  This year, however, we came out on top.  Both the boys and girls teams won by five points.

Chris Miland to run at Nike Border Clash

Nike sponsors a cross country meet every year where the top runners from Oregon and Washington race. It is called the Nike Border Clash, and it is one of the coolest races you will ever see. A large cannon acts as the starting gun. A helicopter flies over head filming the entire race. Spectators can watch the race on huge TVs that are at various places on the course. Drummers walk along the course drumming in rhythm during the race. The course is run on the incredible Nike World Headquarters outside of Portland. It is quite an experience.

Based on his finish at the state meet, Chris was an alternate for this race. Yesterday, however, he received a phone call from Nike informing him that someone had to drop out, and that he was in.

The race is Sunday, November 20th. Good luck Chris!

PRs For Everyone at the Mile Time Trial

Every cross country season on the Monday of the last week before state our varsity runners race a mile on the track at Renton Stadium.  The purpose is to get the sensation of running very fast and to get the confidence boost of running a PR or close to it, even though we have been training for 5Ks and not 1600s.  Usually a few people on the team manage to run a PR.  This year, every one who ran accomplished a PR.  Here are the mile times (only the guys ran).
